HI BLOGGERS

On Thursday May 18, I went in the spectacular city of Washington DC. I have to say that it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, the White House, the National Library, the Abraham Lincoln and George Washington Memorials, the World War II and the Vietnam War memorials and the wonderful Air and Space Museum. I been in these places in one day and, at the end of the day I was so tired that I only could think about sleep.

We were together as a class (my partners, teachers and me) but I spend most the time with my compadre Slanking. Inside, on the Air and Space museum we found everything we wanted to see related with spaces journals and aviation. Watch lunar rocks and the Apollo 11 (the first space ship that went to the moon) was great but, been inside of a flight simulator was incredible. Slanking and I were together inside of a machine that simulate you are leading a combat airplane (F-18). At the beginning I didn’t know how to control the airplane (but it didn’t matter), I just started to turnaround as much as I could and Slanking was screaming so loud that people outside the machine thought I was killing him. All my blood came to my head, it was just exciting.

I feel a great respect for this country and for all the people living within. At the Lincoln and World War II memorials I realized who patriotic and respectful for their founders Americans are. People showed a lot of respect for these museums and memorials. However it was hard for me to see all these names and stars in memory of those whom lose their lives in the war, I realized that this country is forge by war. It is all for now, I going to write more about my trip to Washington and when I got the pictures I will put some in my Blog…. Peace.

Housing rent increasing

17-May-06

One of the biggest problems that are affecting New York is the increase in rent. It had been increasing because of the high taxes of the city. Another responsible of the rent increase is the higher prices of the crude oil. As we know the crude oil move the economic of the world, the crude oil is going up day by day and if the crude oil goes up everything goes up too such as the food, gas, market and the rent too.

There are little solutions that can improve to solve the problem of the rent increase. We can create community programs or Coops to help the people to pay less for they rent.

The government should create a plan or vouchers to prevent the rent increase.

The government should reduce the taxes to these people that do not ear a lot of money.

Transportation

17-May-06

By Reyna Zorrila, Atia Qazalbash and Eva Murillo

The city council has received a large grant from the federal government in order to improve transportation in the city. The city council has received two proposals. One proposal is to spend the money on upgrading the present subway and bus system. The other proposal is to create more subway lines and bus routes. There are enough funds for only one of these proposals, so the council must make a decision.

The first option is to spend the money on upgrading the present subway and bus system. Why?

Different types of transit project that it combines to create a seamless transit system allowing commuters to connect easily to numerous destinations. Subways and buses will become more efficient to travel.

They should have better security for public transportation for example police or cameras, and signs.

The second option is to create more subway lines and bus routes. Why?

1- If you spend the money creating more subway lines and bus routes, people can save time because many people don’t have access to take trains and buses near to their house.

2- Federal government has to spend on the subways lines because they are too old and not in good condition.

3-Transportation will be easier by having more subways lines and buses routes because they might run faster and save time of people.

Nurses and Counselors

17-May-06

A proposal has been made for our community schools. One is to hire more nurses and the other one is to hire more counselors in order to help with the development of students. There is not enough money to accomplish the two proposals. Which one should Mayor Mike Bloomberg choose?

A) The first proposal is to hire more nurses. Having more nurses in school is very important because they: 1- Can help with the health of students. 2- Can give sex education classes. 3- Be able to help all the students if there is more than one nurse.

Health Care

17-May-06

Acording to this article it was a controversy about health care programs and the methods that they used to created it, and if this program could be helpful to the people who really need it.

Solutions

Should all jobs have to offer health care to their employer or should public taxes pay for universal health care?

Drug and Alcohol

17-May-06

A proposal has been made to the Mayor of New York to increase awareness about drug and alcohol issues in our community. One proposal is to educate high school students and parents in an after school program about how to prevent the use of drugs and alcohol. The other proposal is to provide treatment centers to help people stop drug and alcohol use.

The first proposal is to educate high school students and parents in after school program about how to prevent the use of drugs and alcohol. Why? Peer pressure makes the majority of students vulnerable to use drugs and alcohol.

2- Teaching teenagers in school about the dangers of using drugs and alcohol can help them to avoid addiction in the future by gives them speeches and takes them to hospitals and jails to show people that are affected.

3- Having good communication between parent and children could help them prevent the use of drug and alcohol.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=health&res=9A03E7DD123EF932A25757C0A962958260

The second proposal is to provide treatment centers to help people stop the use of drugs and alcohol. Why?

1- Building a treatment center in our community will help drug and alcohol users stay away from crimes because most of the people who are drug and alcohol users try to satisfy their addiction no matter what happens.

2- The drug and alcohol treatment centers can offer group counseling that will provide help to addicts to have better lives where addicts can talk about why they are involved in vicious cycles. Also, they can provide job opportunities or volunteer jobs that they can receive a little amount of money to try to keep them in the programs.

3- The treatment centers will decrease the number of users in the community. People can learn the consequences of these addictions which it affects their families. Also keeping their mind actives could help a lot.
