Google Reader fail

Picture 1.png

After spending the morning scrolling through my feeds in Google Reader, I realized that, out of thousands of posts that were written in the last week or so, I was only interested in reading a handful. The signal to noise ration is disturbingly out of whack.

This has been the pattern for the last month or so. Is it just the summer slowdown or is Google Reader — and all traditional feed-reading — simply failing me?

I’m thinking about jumping ship and trying out alternative schemes for a while, like recently bookmarked Delicious links (love that new design!), Netvibes, or something else. What do you do?

  1. I normally just fail like you do. I need a good filtering system so that I can get just the top post or two from heavy content producers such as Kos. While I want to read nearly every post on niche blogs like techPres or my friends’ blogs, I’d just like to see the best 1-2 per day from some of the bigger blogs.

  2. Josh,

I hope you figure something out, because YOU are my filter. I’m a big fan of your shared items in reader. Sometimes I just read my friend’s shared posts. The only problem is turn around time. Most-emailed lists are where I’m at, anything that has to push through the human filter.

I suppose what’s really called for is an exclusive “digg” network. I’m sure 20 people are working on it.

  3. David – just because of you, I’m going back to Google Reader. It will have to work for me, because I’m working for you!

  4. Funny, I’ve been having the same thoughts on Google Reader, waiting for them to introduce a filter. But in the meantime, I second David. Please don’t give up on the rest of us, I love your shared items!
