That's a good attitude, and one I try hard to maintain. Getting old helps. ;-)

re: JSF: my wife, who is the MFA in creative fiction, has a pronounced distaste for Foer, and I simply don't have time to verify her opinion — especially when there's a fresh copy of The Atlantic Monthly to plow through.

But if you indeed haven't read Safran Foer then you're right, you can't make fun of it...

And you should read it. It's good.

The point that I tried to make before giving up and going to bed last night, was that I've moved on from giving them shit, and have learned to relax and take in what's good, and forget about what's bad. And there was a lot of good last night -- maybe I'm just an obnoxious hipster!

I've long avoided the Beautiful Boys of Contemporary Fiction. Yes, I read The Corrections, and didn't hate it. But a lot of the stuff seems like post-post-modern reflexive puffery. Jonathan Safran Foer ain't speaking for this thirtysomething white quasi-intellectual male.

Of course, one can't make fun of what one hasn't actually read.

I'm finally coming off a decade-long nonfiction bender; maybe I'll do a little backtracking.

Not sure if I'm put off by the cadre of hipster acts that played this benefit. I believe "synergy" is the obnoxious marketing term.

I swear I'm not blog-stalking. You're just that fascinating.
