Defining citizen’s media

Ethan Zuckerman gave a talk at the NetSquared conference and gave what might be the best definition yet of citizen journalism/social software and its cultural importance and impact.  I can’t and won’t quote everything here — there’s too much good stuff — but one line that resonated with me was about the need to teach others how to create content:

Our job is no longer about representing the points of view we think are important – it’s about helping to people directly affected by problems and situations to represent themselves.
