This has been circulated around the blogosphere, but it’s too good to pass up.
The emails of ex-FEMA chief Michael Brown have been released under the Freedom of Information Act, Open Source tells us. And there are some juicy tidbits in there.
The most blogged-about item so far is a little communiqué from Brownie to his press secretary written as the post-Katrina mess unfolded (emphasis mine):
Just so you know, this is old news. The term refugee is forbidden here. These are Americans who are hurricane victims, they are evacuees displaced from their homes. I am tired, no, angered, by charges of racism. You know that neither me nor anyone associated with me is a racist. Grrrr.
How was that Sonic burger?

to be fair, it was probably really fucking good, because sonic is awesome. they had a frito pie wrap once (think frito pie burrito) and i thought i had died and gone to heaven.
i am also wondering why you chose that question to emphasize rather than the gilmore girls/everwood/other-WB-show term “grrr.” which to me is infinitely more annoying and offensive.
im just saying.
also, i do think evacuee is a more accurate term. and maybe brown and his associates arent racist but their policies seem to have been.

Posted 15 May 2006 at 7:07 pm ¶I agree with rb up there that sonic is delicious. If I were having a rough day at work and I knew someone had treated themselves to some Sonic with perhaps an Ocean Breeze to quench the thirst, I would ask how it was.
Brownie deserves to have his ass handed to him, but I think it’s been done. Really, we need to get our hands on some emails (or rather, lack therof) from Chertoff.
